A wider base still depends on the cushion beneath it.
Softness changes the resting surface
A cushion can compress unevenly under a drink or next to a person. Steadi spreads the footprint of a compatible container, but it cannot make all upholstery firm or level. If the base rocks, tilts or bridges a gap, change the location.
A lid and a holder do different work
A lid may limit some spills according to the cup’s design; Steadi adds no seal. An open glass can still splash even if it does not fall over. Measure a lidded tumbler at the base and check low handles or boots before assuming compatibility.
Pick a setup you do not have to balance
A useful resting place should support the drink without an improvised wedge or a careful balancing act. Keep it separate from the place where people sit or put their feet. If no such cushion spot exists, a stable side table is the more appropriate choice.
